Having The Right Mindset To Lose Weight

You may think that losing weight is all about pounding out the workouts, eating right and doing it again and again. While that may be true to an extent, there is a major component that often gets lost in the shuffle. That is of course the mental aspect of things.

Having the right mindset to lose weight is very important, because if you don’t you really can’t expect to have the type of success you are looking for. The workouts you do and the diets you follow take dedication, and if you are not mentally ready to dedicate yourself both with time and physically , you are going to struggle.

So, how do you get into that mindset? First, you need to tell yourself to not make excuses. Most people can fit a workout in no matter how busy their schedule is. Don’t make lame excuses that only hurt yourself. If you only workout half the time, you will get half the results.

Second, take the diets seriously. No, not the fast food diet. Not the chocolate diet either. You need to eat healthy and stay disciplined or else all your workouts will go to waste. Make sure you mentally keep yourself focused on your goals instead of reaching for that candy bar.

Finally, you need to be able to believe in yourself. It sounds a little silly I know, but a lot of people are not really sure if they can truly lose weight. People will look at their body and feel like they are fighting a battle that can’t be won. There have been people who are over 500 pounds who have slimmed down to normal size. Since I doubt anyone reading this can claim to be that size, you just need to focus for your own good and go from there.

How Losing Weight Can Help You Mentally

When people go on diets, they do so because they want to see the results on their body. However, the mental aspect of losing weight will actually make a huge difference in regards to you as well.

I have never been severely overweight, but what I would like to do is share my father’s story with you. He is about 6 foot tall, and as his weight began to get in the upper 200 pounds, he knew something had to be done.

It’s a given that he was having trouble doing physical activities. As a school teacher though, he didn’t realize until later just how much this weight gain wore on his mental state. He became bitter, fatigued easier and just did not want to do much of anything.

Once he found a way to lose all that weight (got down to the low 200s, where he still is today), he mentally became a lot stronger. He enjoyed his job again, he wanted to do things after work.

The moral of the story is, if you are suffering with weight problems, think about all the benefits that come with finally getting back to your old weight. The physical difference will be noticeable by everyone right away.

Mentally, once you see that you are able to trim the fat off so easily, you want to constantly work at it even more. You begin to realize all that work you did can change the complete outlook of the rest of your life. If that doesn’t boost how you feel mentally, I’m not sure what else could.

Good luck if you are about to start your battle with the bulge. As you can see on the rest of this site, there are a lot of great programs to help you stay motivated. Some even focus on the mental aspect, so pay close attention to those.

Great Foods That Help You Lose Weight

Losing weight is not an exact science, but a lot of nutritionists and fitness experts have come close. With all that said, there are a lot of foods out there that can you help you lose weight more than others. Since I have been doing this kind of stuff for a living (in the maintenance stage now regarding my weight, but these tips still work for me), I wanted to give you my top ones to consider.

Meat (without hormones) – This is a staple in diets such as Atkins, but the fact is lean meats that are not boosted with hormones can really help you lose weight quickly. These contain very little to no carbohydrates, are low in calories and fat as well (as long as you trim off any fat that might be on raw meat after cooking). The best part is, most people already eat this. Just ditch the other unhealthy stuff you might pile onto it (I’m looking at you breading) and you will have a tasty, lean main course.

Grapefruit – Often overlooked because of other fruits, the grapefruit has recently been associated with weight loss. In fact, their is a diet called the Grapefruit diet. A whole grapefruit only is about 80 calories, and most people only eat a half at a time. The best part is the food is also known to help prevent cancer.

Pumpkin – I wanted to keep this list simple, giving you a meat, fruit and vegetable. Pumpkin doesn’t get a whole lot of love outside of Thanksgiving, but it is full of fiber and is also very filling. The one drawback is by itself it may not taste that great, but adding some slight flavoring is fine.

As with all diets and trying to lose weight, the important thing is to moderate what you eat. Incorporating these foods I have listed will have you well on your way.

Can You Lose Weight Without Exercise?

Exercise and weight loss seem to be inseparable. The fact is, not everyone can exercise though and so they look for other options. So the question is: can you lose weight without exercise?

The answer of course is yes, it just puts a bigger emphasis on eating correctly. When you workout, it basically gives you more ways to eat what you want and take in more calories. You will burn more when doing exercises.

If you opt not to do any exercise, you still burn calories during the day. Your body is always burning calories off, just not at as quick a rate obviously. Walking around, doing everyday work will burn more calories than you think, although this is not ideal.

The important thing to look at though is why are you not working out? If you are able bodied, you should definitely give it a try. It will help you keep the weight off, and also build muscles. Being active will also help you with staying overall healthy in every way possible.

Another option is to have weight loss surgery done if you just can’t exercise. Many people have had success with this, but again I would consider this an idea only if nothing else works for you. It is important to limit these surgeries to extreme cases, because some even consider it a form of cheating yourself by taking the easy way out.

Exercising is a person’s best friend to keep themselves in good shape. I know it is easier to say and think about than actually do it, but once you begin you might fall in love with the idea and continue to do it. The important thing is to begin. Best of all, you can begin to eat the foods you like again and they won’t have as huge an impact on your stomach.
